Applications for the Appointment of the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector

 

In terms of Act Number XXII of 2007 to regulate voluntary organisations and their administration, the Ministry of Education and Employment is inviting applications for the appointment of the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector according to section 35 of the Act.

 

The Council shall be composed of a Chairperson and another ten members. Out of these eleven members, one shall be appointed by the Minister to represent the Government, another member shall be the Commissioner ex officio and the other nine members shall be appointed, in accordance with sub-article (3), from among and to represent the voluntary sector.

 

(A) Five Members from among the Voluntary Sector as follow:

 

1 Three members shall be nominated by voluntary organisations enrolled at date of publication of the notice; 

 

2. One member shall be nominated by voluntary organisations which are not enrolled in terms of this Act but registered in terms of the Second Schedule to the Civil Code;

  

3. One member shall be nominated by voluntary organisations which are neither enrolled in terms of the Act nor registered in terms of the Second Schedule to the Civil Code.

 

(B) Four members shall be appointed as follows:

 

1. One member to represent founders of and donors to voluntary organisations;

 

2. One member to represent members of voluntary organisations and volunteers;

3. One member to represent administrators of voluntary organisations;

 

4 One member to represent foreign and international organisations.

 

Provided that there is more than one nomination representing a particular sector, the Minister shall appoint such members from among the nominations received.

 

Where no nominations are received, the Minister shall appoint such members at his discretion.

Prior to appointing the members of the Council, the Minister shall immediately consult the Social Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives or any other committee substituting the same on the nominations received.

 

A person shall not be qualified to be appointed as a member of the Council if such person:

 

a. is a Judge, a Magistrate, a Member of the House of Representatives or a Local Council, or a candidate for election to the House of Representatives or a Local Council; or

 

b. is legally incapacitated or interdicted; or

 

c. has been declared bankrupt or has made a composition or arrangement with his creditors; or

 

d. has been convicted of a crime affecting public trust or theft or fraud, or of knowingly receiving property, obtaining by theft or fraud, a crime affecting the good order of the family or of an offence against this Act.

 

Nominations from voluntary organisations, indicating under which of the above sections the nominations are being made, will be received by the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations by noon Friday, 9th February 2018.

Scholarships in the Czech Republic for 2018

(for Maltese Citizens only)

 

The Czech Republic is offering 3 Maltese students the possibility of a scholarship at the 2018 Summer Schools of Slavonic Studies organised by public institutions of higher education in the Czech Republic (Faculty of Philosophy of the University of South Bohemia, České Budĕjovice; Faculty of Arts of Charles University, Prague; Faculty of Arts of Palacky University, Olomouc). The courses are held during the summer months (July-September), and their length ranges from 3 to 4 weeks depending on the course content determined by each summer school and are designed for students, teachers, translators and interpreters and other experts active in the field of Czech/Slavonic studies. They are also open to who is interested in the Czech language, literature, history and culture. These summer schools offer language courses at various levels of proficiency, seminars on the Czech literature, culture and history, free-time activities including theatrical, musical and dance performances, trips, etc.

 

A student has to indicate the discipline in which he/she would like to pursue the studies and then Prague will assign them the most suitable university. The Scholarship consists or free board and lodging, full coverage of course fees and free access to cultural events which are part of the course programme. It does not however include travel to/from the Czech Republic and health insurance.

Application forms are available from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion, Valletta, or the Ministry’s website (https://foreignaffairs.gov.mt/en/Pages/Scholarships.aspx). This form together with the Czech application form and Curriculum Vitae should be submitted to the Scholarships Section at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion, Valletta, by hand from 8.00 a.m. to noon and by not later than noon of Monday, 26th February, 2018.

 

Successful candidates may be required to enter into a contract to serve the Government or the Private Sector of Malta upon completion.

 

Applications from Government and Parastatal employees and from the Private Sector will not be considered unless recommended by their Head of Department/Employer respectively.

 

Late applications will not be considered.

 

The Board’s decision will be final.
