Biodegradable Mulch Scheme
The Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights is launching a scheme meant to incentivise farmers and mulch suppliers in their supply chain to opt for biodegradable mulch whilst covering the increase in cost which would otherwise be incurred by farmers due to the upsurge in the price of conventional mulch.
Hence, a subsidy of €1,000 per hectare is recommended to be provided to farmers who purchase biodegradable mulch to produce their crops. Funds will be distributed on a first come first served basis
The budget available for the maintenance grant to beneficiaries is of €69,059 which will be funded through EU exceptional adjustment aid to producers in the agricultural sectors as published through Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/467 of 23rd March, 2022.
