PRESS RELEASE BY THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARIAT FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNITIES: An enrivonmentally friendly scheme for our communities

An environmentally friendly scheme titled ‘Rebbiegħa fil-Komunità – Xettel b’Ilwien in-Natura’ has been announced. Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government and Communities Silvio Parnis stated that local councils and regional committees have an important role in the embellishment of their respective localities. Furthermore, the citizens of our localities can help as well. For this reason, the parliamentary secretariat, in collaboration with the Directorate for Strategy and Policy Implementation, launched a competition with the main objective of encouraging residents to work with local councils and regional committees to further embellish the localities’ enivornment.

All local councils and regional committees were eligible to apply for this scheme. A total of 15 local councils applied and 40 different roads will be participating in this competition. All the local councils that applied will recieve plants provided by the private company Norwex. These plants will then be distributed to those residents residing in the participative roads. The winners will be selected by a board appointed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Justice, Culture and Local Government. The winner will be awarded the sum of €5,000, whilst the runner up and the second runner up will be awarded €3,000 and €2,000 respectively.
