PRESS RELEASE BY THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARIAT FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNITIES: Innovation and Inclusion for Localities of Excellence

In relation to the new 2020 schemes for local and regional councils announced two days ago, a conference for local and regional councils entitled ‘Innovation and Inclusion for Localities of Excellence’ was held today. The aim of the conference was to consolidate the 2020 strategy and vision through the schemes launched this week. During this conference, talks and workshops on the environment, quality of life and inclusiveness through culture were held.

Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government and Communities Silvio Parnis said that presently, the work and importance of local and regional councils are recognised by everyone. “If we look at the initiatives and schemes which were launched this year, we can clearly see the positive change that local government is making in our localities”, said the parliamentary secretary. He also said that ultimately, the local government is obliged to deliver the central government’s strategy and agenda to the local level and this is the main aim of such conferences, schemes and initiatives.

Silvio Parnis called on all local and regional councils to participate in next year’s schemes and initiatives, as after all, the local government’s role is to ensure that residents are given a service of excellence.

Director of the Directorate for Strategy and Policy Implementation Marisa Pisani said that the directorate’s vision is for local authorities to, through innovative schemes, have the means to draw up innovative programs and services which strengthen our communities.
