PRESS RELEASE BY THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARIAT FOR CONSUMER RIGHTS, PUBLIC CLEANSING AND SUPPORT FOR THE CAPITAL CITY

World Pharmacists Day 2019 recognises the importance of pharmacists in ensuring safe and effective medicines for all

“Pharmacists have a key role in safeguarding patient safety through the appropriate use of medicines, enhanced concordance and reduced medication errors. It is of great advantage, that pharmacists are one of the most accessible and versatile health care professionals globally,” said Parliamentary Secretary for Consumer Rights, Public Cleansing and Support for the Capital City Deo Debattista during a press conference for World Pharmacists Day 2019.

World Pharmacists Day is an annual appointment to highlight the positive impact that pharmacists around the world have on improving patient health. The knowledge and expertise acquired through science and robust research are put into practice in providing patient-centred care and ensuring the quality, safety and efficacy of medicines in community pharmacies, in hospitals, in the pharmaceutical industry and the regulatory sciences.

Parliamentary Secretary Debattista stated that the development in all areas of the pharmaceutical services in Malta corresponds to the success in the economic and social areas. This has created an unprecedented demand for professionals in the pharmaceutical sector. To this end, he urges students to join the courses to graduate as pharmacists and pharmaceutical technologists and further their studies in postgraduate pharmaceutical research, namely the Masters in Pharmacy and the Doctorate in Pharmacy. These courses will provide the necessary tools to develop the required skills and competencies to meet with the dynamic needs of the pharmaceutical industry and the expanding medical needs of patients.
