PRESS RELEASE BY THE COMMISSION ON GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE The imperative of taking care of each other at this time of social isolation

The Commission on Gender-Based Violence and Domestic Violence wishes to draw the attention of the public to the urgent need for us all to take care of each other, now more than ever. This necessitates that we do what we can to remain calm and always follow instruction given by the authorities for the safety and security of all of us. We also need to remember that we lead by example – our children look to us to learn about life. Let us teach them how to be proactive and resilient in the face of adversity.

The COVID-19 pandemic necessitates social distancing, and this could result in higher risk of domestic abuse. We urge the public to be vigilant and report if they believe anybody is in any kind of danger, such as that of domestic violence. Being a passive bystander means taking the side of the perpetrator. Human lives are a stake. Please call 179 or 112 to report and ask for help and advice. Information about how to download the  112 mobile application onto your mobile device is to be found here:
