PRESS RELEASE BY THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARIAT FOR SOCIAL DIALOGUE Parliamentary Secretary Andy Ellul attends the seventh and final Plenary session of the Conference on the Future of Europe

“As we approach the end of the Conference on the Future of Europe, I will continue working to ensure that the outcome of this citizen consultation process reflects the wishes and ambitions of citizens, in the best interest of our country and its people."

 

Parliamentary Secretary for Social Dialogue Andy Ellul participated at the seventh and final plenary session of the Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFE), which took place at the European Parliament in Strasbourg between 29th and 30th April.

 

During this final plenary session, Conference participants discussed the conclusion of work on the final set of Plenary Proposals which will be included in the Conference's final report.

 

The parliamentary secretary contributed to ongoing discussions concerning the position of the Council with regard to the Conference's outcomes, with the aim of ensuring that these outcomes reflect the wishes and aspirations of citizens for the Future of Europe.

 

Andy Ellul also underlined the importance of ensuring that the Conference's focus remains on the citizen's views and suggestions, and on how these suggestions can be followed up upon by the European Union (EU) institutions in an impactful manner.

 

Following the final plenary session, the Executive Board shall finalise the report on the discussions held during the conference and the citizens' proposals.

 

The report will then be submitted to the Presidents of the Council, Commission and European Parliament on Europe Day, on 9th May 2022.

 

Following this process, the institutions will consider the proposals and decide on further measures to be taken within their mandates and in line with the EU Treaties.

 

The Conference on the Future of Europe kicked off on Europe Day, 9th May 2021, and will wrap up exactly one year later, on 9th May 2022. Its goal was to hear the views of citizens across the EU, on the challenges and opportunities the EU is and will be facing going forward.​
