In accordance with the Food Safety Act and Regulation (EC) No. 178 of 2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council, the Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health wishes to inform the public that following information received through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed said product must not be consumed since it contains elevated levels of glycidyl fatty acid esters.
Glycidyl fatty acid esters are hydrolysed into glycidol in the gastrointestinal tract. The European Food Safety Authority concluded that glycidol is a genotoxic and carcinogenic compound.
