On behalf of the Maltese Government, MITA signed a €2 million Enterprise Agreement with Esri to enhance the government’s geographic information system (GIS) capabilities.
The agreement spreads over three years, and will provide Esri software, professional services, and technical support to twenty-three entities including ministries and agencies across the Maltese Government.

This will enable further growth in the use of GIS capabilities to support current and future strategic geospatial initiatives.
MITA CEO Emanuel Darmanin noted the agency’s satisfaction to embark on this strategic journey with such a global leader. “By means of this agreement, a whole suite of ArcGIS products and modules will be made available. Our role will facilitate the application of digital technologies that will enable the local public administration to work as one government.”
Bringing all public service departments and entities in a common agreement will facilitate data sharing, multi-agency decision making, and community engagement. With this comprehensive geographic insights and tools, Malta will be able to effectively provide services that enrich the community’s quality of life, as well as increase growth opportunities for businesses and individuals. The aim of this agreement is also to take this relationship to the next level by engaging with academia to help Malta nurture its future workforce and providing it with the right tools and technologies.
