Malta is poised to build on its growing reputation as a key player in the global esports and digital innovation sector, continuing to develop the rapidly expanding niche of esports. This growth is supported by a new multi-year partnership with premier esports entertainment company BLAST, in collaboration with GamingMalta. This three-year agreement will bring nine major international events to the island, including the high-profile BLAST Premier Bounty S2 tournament in August 2025. It will attract new opportunities for growth, exposure, and collaboration.
As part of this investment, BLAST will establish a permanent studio and operations hub right here on the island, providing the infrastructure and expertise needed to support live events, content creation, and long-term engagement with the global esports community. Central to this development is the creation of a permanent esports broadcasting facility spanning over 1,000m², equipped with cutting-edge technology and capable of hosting Tier 1 international esports tournaments. GamingMalta and BLAST will also work together to support local talent by working closely with universities, grassroots communities, and industry partners, creating real opportunities for Maltese players, content creators, and professionals to thrive to grow, and succeed in the global gaming industry.
This aligns with the government’s broader efforts to develop high-value sectors that offer strong career prospects for local talent while building on Malta’s existing strengths in digital innovation and gaming.
Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects, Silvio Schembri, stated that “This partnership with BLAST, a leading global esports entertainment company, aligns perfectly with the Malta Vision 2050, which places digital innovation, youth engagement, and the creative economy at the heart of our national strategy. Collaborations like this help position Malta as a forward-looking country for future industries, while also creating real opportunities for our youths through education, careers, and international exposure. By investing in strategic collaborations like this, we continue to build an economy that is innovative, resilient, and internationally competitive.”
The government’s focus remains on nurturing sectors that generate high-value jobs with good pay and growth potential, and esports fits perfectly within this vision. The Malta Vision 2050 KPIs are already yielding tangible results, with such partnerships demonstrating the country’s ability to attract world-class talent and create valuable opportunities at home.
Ivan Filletti, CEO of GamingMalta, added that “At GamingMalta, we are committed to nurturing every level of the gaming ecosystem, from grassroots to global. This multi-year partnership with BLAST is a bold step forward in our relentless journey to continue pushing Malta to the forefront of esports. We will continue to champion our ‘Home of Gaming Excellence’ vision by delivering top-tier events and creating new opportunities for the next generation of esports talent.”
Robbie Douek, CEO of BLAST, said: “Our partnership with GamingMalta is a major milestone for BLAST, having secured a multi-year partnership to elevate esports and gaming in Malta. We are excited to bring live output, a new studio, and competitive entertainment to the island. We are enthusiastic about the government’s vision on all the gaming fronts, and our partnership will continue to fuel this ambition.”
