L-Ambaxxatur tar-Repubblika Dominicana, Tony Raful Tejada, ippreżenta l-Ittri ta’ Kredenzjali tiegħu lill-President George Vella fil-Palazz ta’ Sant’Anton, Ħ’Attard.

Filwaqt li laqa' lill-Ambaxxatur għal Malta, il-President Vella qal li minkejja d-distanza ġeografika, Malta tapprezza r-rabtiet diplomatiċi kordjali mar-Repubblika Dominicana u tħares b'mod pożittiv lejn il-possibbiltà li jiġu esplorati oqsma ġodda ta' kooperazzjoni bilaterali. Ir-relazzjonijiet jistgħu jissaħħu wkoll permezz ta' oqfsa ta' kooperazzjoni reġjonali bħal dawk bejn l-Unjoni Ewropea u l-Komunità ta' Stati tal-Amerika Latina u tal-Karibew u l-Ftehim ta' Sħubija Ekonomika UE-CARIFORUM. Il-President Vella rrefera għall-mandat li jmiss ta' Malta bħala Membru mhux Permanenti tal-Kunsill tas-Sigurtà tan-NU u enfasizza l-prijoritajiet li ser jiġu indirizzati matul il-perjodu 2023-2024.

 

L-Ambaxxatur Tejada esprima l-ħerqa tiegħu li jaħdem fuq arranġamenti u ftehimiet bilaterali effettivi li permezz tagħhom jistgħu jiġu strutturati r-relazzjonijiet ma' Malta. Il-pożizzjoni ġeostrateġika ta' Malta u l-wirt storiku u kulturali għani tagħha jistgħu jkunu ta' interess kbir għal skambji kummerċjali u turistiċi. L-Ambaxxatur spjega li bħal Malta, is-settur turistiku huwa kontributur ewlieni tal-ekonomija ta' pajjiżu u żied jgħid ukoll li ċ-ċifri tat-tkabbir ekonomiku huma fost dawk l-aktar inkoraġġanti fir-reġjun. L-Ambaxxatur elabora wkoll dwar ir-relazzjonijiet mal-Haiti, pajjiż ġar, fejn iffoka l-aktar fuq l-aspetti ta' sigurtà u migrazzjoni.

The Ambassador of the Dominican Republic, Tony Raful Tejada, presented his Letters of Credence to President George Vella at San Anton Palace, Attard.

In welcoming the Ambassador to Malta, President Vella stated that despite the geographical distance, Malta values the cordial diplomatic ties with the Dominican Republic and positively looks at the possibility of exploring new areas for bilateral cooperation. Relations can also be intensified through regional cooperation frameworks such as those between the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and the CARIFORUM-EU Partnership Agreement. President Vella referred to Malta's upcoming tenure as non-Permanent Member of the UN Security Council and highlighted the priorities that will be addressed during the 2023-2024 term.

 

Ambassador Tejada expressed his willingness to work on effective bilateral arrangements and agreements through which relations with Malta can be structured. Malta's geostrategic position and its rich historical and cultural heritage could be of great interest for commercial and touristic exchanges. The Ambassador explained that like Malta, the tourism sector, is a major contributor to his country's economy adding also that economic growth figures are among the most encouraging in the region. Relations with neighbouring Haiti were elaborated upon by the Ambassador, focussing primarily on the aspects of security and migration.
