Organised by the Gozo Football Association and supported by the Ministry for Justice, Dialogue and the Family, the Gozo Cup is an annual football tournament involving a Gozo FA selection and Maltese Premier League sides.

This year's tournament, held between Friday and Sunday at the Gozo Stadium, had the added flavour of a selection from the region of Cilento in Italy. The other participants were the Gozo FA selection, and BOV Premier League sides Valletta FC and Mosta FC.

In Friday's semi-finals Gozo FA beat Cilento 1-0, and Valletta emerged winners over Mosta with the score of 3-0. In the third place playoff on Sunday, Mosta beat Cilento 1-0 while Valletta overcame Gozo FA on penalties in the final. The game ended 2-2 with Valletta winning the penalty shoot-out 6-5.

Chris Said praised the Gozo Football Association for the sterling work it is carrying out to improve football in Gozo, and the participating clubs. He said that this tournament, which has become an annual fixture in Gozo's sports calendar, is a very important tool to strengthen sports tourism on the island of Gozo, especially during the winter and lean months.
