This afternoon, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Parliament of Malta, Anġlu Farrugia has received a courtesy visit by the Ambassador of the Republic of Columbia Juan Sebastian Betancur Escobar.
The two sides reiterated the cordial bilateral relations which exist between Malta and Columbia following the establishment of diplomatic relations on 31st March 1986. Reference was made to previous visits to Colombia by Maltese dignitaries, which includes a state visit by the late President Agatha Barbara in September 1986.
They referred to the situation in Colombia, especially the ongoing peace talks between the Government of Colombia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, which were taking place in Cuba. They also discussed issues of mutual interest, with particular reference to find ways and means how to enhance trade relations between the two countries.
