PRESS RELEASE BY THE OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER Speaker Farrugia receives the new Ambassador of the Republic of Panama

Speaker Anġlu Farrugia received a courtesy visit from the new Ambassador of the Republic of Panama Ana María de León de Alba.

Speaker Farrugia referred to the diplomatic relations between Malta and Panama, which were established on 19th January 1976. He said that although there were no Maltese living in Panama, Maltese tourists visit Panama regularly and, in fact, the Maltese Honorary Consulate in Panama City receives requests from Maltese tourists for an array of consular services.

Speaker Farrugia and Ambassador de León de Alba discussed issues of mutual interest, particularly in establishing contact between the parliaments of the two countries.

EU-Panama relations as well as the III EU-CELAC Summit, which was due to be held in El Salvador in October 2017 but was cancelled due to the political and economic situation in the region, were also mentioned in the meeting.

Ambassador Ana María de León de Alba was accompanied by Mr Harold Randy Hayle, Third Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Panama in Rome.

Mr Ray Scicluna, Clerk of the House, was also present.
