Speaker of the House of Representatives Anġlu Farrugia received a courtesy visit from Ms Solvita Aboltina, Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia, resident in Rome.
Speaker Farrugia noted that, following the establishment of diplomatic relations on 1 January 1992, the two countries have shared positive bilateral relations, based on a legal framework of bilateral agreements. Moreover, the various exchanges of high-level visits attest to the cordial relations between Malta and Latvia. He said that there were Maltese investors residing in Latvia, while around 400 Latvians are working in Malta. He referred to MEDAC, IMLI and the English Language Schools, all of which could host Latvian students.
Speaker Farrugia and Ambassador Aboltina discussed issues of mutual interest, particularly cooperation between the two Parliaments through the formation of a Parliamentary Friendship Group as well as at the level of Foreign and European Affairs.
Ambassador Aboltina was accompanied by Ms Ilvija Birkhāne, First Secretary at the Embassy of Latvia in Rome.
