High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Muhammed Hassan, paid a courtesy visit to Speaker Anġlu Farrugia.
Speaker Farrugia referred to the cordial bilateral relations that have existed between the two countries ever since diplomatic relations were established in January 1966. He recalled the role of the Pakistani International Airlines in the training of Maltese pilots and engineers in the early 70s which showed that relations had developed in a spirit of friendship and co-operation. He mentioned the Maltese citizens doing missionary work in Pakistan and the hundreds of Pakistanis residing and employed in Malta.
The two dignitaries discussed issues of mutual interest, including co-operation between the parliaments of the two countries and the participation of Pakistani students in courses organised by MEDAC and IMLI. Medical tourism, health care, financial services and blockchain also featured in the discussion.
Ambassador Muhammed Hassan, who is based in Tunisia, was accompaniend by Hermann Mallia, Honorary Consul of Pakistan in Malta.
