In accordance with the Food Safety Act and Regulation (EC) No. 178 of 2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council, the Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health wishes to inform the public that from information received through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed, said product must not be used since it resulted that migration of Primary Aromatic Amines is higher than the acceptable levels. From information that we have received, this product was sold to Maltese customers through the internet.
Primary Aromatic Amines (PAAs) are chemicals which can migrate from food contact materials, like kitchen tools and food packaging material. These chemicals form during the processes which require elevated temperatures and may be carcinogenic to humans, if found in elevated amounts.

If you have discarded the packaging, on the reverse of the spoon, you will find an imprint. An arrow points to the number 12 and 1 and a 9 is imprinted on either side of the arrow.
