The Ministry for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning has announced the launch of the Intelligent Planning Consultative Forum, which is bringing together key stakeholders within the areas of development, planning, and environment. The ultimate aim is to identify proposals for key areas that require immediate action in the medium and long-term, with respect to the concept of intelligent planning in Malta.

“Over the past weeks we have heard, on numerous occasions, that the economy will not be the same post-COVID-19. This sentiment has featured in local and international discussions involving experts, stakeholders, academics, business people, and the public in general. There seems to be an underlying message of hope, whereby people are demanding to see change," the Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning Aaron Farrugia said.

“The construction industry is crucial for the development of our economy, generating wealth, and employing thousands of people. Yet, this does not imply that we should operate without limits. Intelligent planning is key for the sustainability—and the quality—of our economy. It is time to generate jobs and wealth through new methods of planning. I am confident that if we all come together, we can achieve great results. I am looking forward to ensure that we 'Build Back Better'," Minister Farrugia said.

The first mandate of the forum, which held its first meeting yesterday, is to identify the most pertinent issues related to Planning in Malta and develop proposals in this regard. The first task is expected to be completed within three months. The forum will then proceed to addressing more long-term issues and challenges. ​
