Speaker Farrugia receives farewell visit from the Ghanaian High Commissioner

Speaker Anġlu Farrugia received a farewell visit from Mrs Mercy Bampo Addo, High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana.

After expressing his appreciation for the hard work carried out by the outgoing High Commissioner, Speaker Farrugia referred to the very cordial relations that exist between Malta and Ghana, which relations have been enhanced with the State Visit to Ghana by former President Coleiro Preca in July 2017 and the State Visit to Malta by the Ghanaian President in March 2018.

Speaker Farrugia mentioned the two different projects, co-financed by the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs, carried out in Ghana in order to assist with the development of the country and its people, namely the ‘HopeXchange Medical Centre’ in Kumasi, Ghana and the ‘Construction of a Refectory and Dormitory for a children’s village’ in Ashaiman, Ghana.

The two dignitaries discussed issues of mutual interest such as trade, with the High Commissioner mentioning the African Continental Free Trade Area. Reference was also made to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, with Speaker noting that the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference was due to meet in Ghana following next year’s meeting in Canada.

High Commissioner Mercy Bampo Addo was accompanied by Ms Naana A. Banahene, First Secretary Economic, Political and Diaspora, at the High Commission of the Republic of Ghana to Malta.
