In accordance with the Food Safety Act and Regulation (EC) No. 178 of 2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council, the Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health wishes to inform the public that from information received through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed, the said product must not be consumed since it contains elevated levels of Benzo(a)pyrene.
Benzo(a)pyrene is a chemical which forms during industrial processes (processes which involve combustion) and can find its way into food through the contaminated environment. It can form during cooking, like grilling on open flames. This chemical can be carcinogenic.
