The Ambassador of the Republic of Angola Maria De Fátima Domingas Monteiro Jardim presented her Letters of Credence to President George Vella at Sant’Anton Palace, Attard.
President Vella referred to the existing potential in several areas, through which the two countries could strengthen bilateral exchanges and juridical framework. The sectors of education, English language studies, tourism, energy and health could all prove to be fruitful for the enhancement of relations, especially those at the people to people level.
Ambassador Monteiro Jardim conveyed her appreciation to Maltese authorities for their commitment to the consolidation of bilateral relations and emphasised Angola’s interest in education and capacity-building. In this regard, mention was made of the International Maritime Law Institute based in Malta, which has already trained several professionals and students from Angola. The Ambassador underlined her willingness to see that all openings for increased cooperation are fully developed.
Moving on to the relations with the European Union, President Vella stated that Malta welcomes the will on both sides to develop a partnership that aims at promoting relations to a higher level through intensive political and policy dialogue. He also referred to multilateral cooperation on an array of global issues and which go beyond migration, development and assistance. The President added that Malta welcomes the new EU-Africa strategy and its aim of bringing the two continents in closer partnership in several sectors.
