Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Claudette Buttigieg received a courtesy visit from the new Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Malta, Andrés Jato.
Deputy Speaker Buttigieg and Ambassador Jato discussed various issues of mutual interest including migration, climate change, renewable energy, and Swedish investments in Malta. They also referred to Swedish nationals working in Malta, particularly in the gaming sector.
Deputy Speaker Buttigieg highlighted Malta’s bid to a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the term 2023-24 and requested Sweden’s support to Malta’s candidature. Ambassador Jato referred to Sweden’s membership of the UNSC for the term 2017-2018 and said that Sweden would be ready to share its experience with Malta.
The two dignitaries also exchanged views on the political situation in Sweden and Malta in view of the forthcoming elections in both countries.
