ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIRECTORATE NOTICE

In accordance with the Food Safety Act and Regulation (EC) No. 178 of 2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council, the Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health wishes to inform the public that following information received through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed said products must not be consumed due to the presence of an unauthorised novel food - Betel nut (Areca catechu).

Bombay Sweet Supari (Mouth Freshner)

Rasilyi Supari (Mouth Freshner)

Tulsi Meetha Pan Masala (Mouth Freshner)

 Origin:Pakistan
 Lots and durability dates:All

The ingredient, Betel nut, is considered harmful to human health. It has been classified by the IARC (International Agency for Cancer Research) as a Group 1 Carcinogen, i.e. carcinogenic to humans.
