PRESS RELEASE BY THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARIAT FOR YOUTH, RESEARCH AND INNOVATION Second Edition of the National STEM Awards announced

During a press conference, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti announced the launch of the Second Edition of the National STEM Awards.

 

The National STEM Awards aims to acknowledge and honour the far-reaching contribution made by individuals and organisations in Malta through engaging and inspiring others to collaboratively prioritise Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, better known as STEM.

 

This year there are eight nominations:

1. Primary Class Teacher Award for Inspiring Learners in STEM

2. Secondary School Teacher Award for Inspiring Learners in STEM

3. Non-formal STEM Educator Award

4. STEM Community Project Award

5. STEAM Project Award

6. Lifetime Award for Contribution to STEM Engagement

7. Engaged Researcher Award

8. Diversity in STEM Award

 

Parliamentary Secretary Azzopardi Tanti stated that these awards celebrate the efforts of those who are contributing to our community through their knowledge, talents, and skills, in the STEM subjects. He continued that these individuals and organisations are giving a lot to local citizens by trying to make our lives better.

 

“The STEM awards are just a token of appreciation to let them know that their efforts are appreciated and welcomed and we want to celebrate their passion in the STEM subjects. I augur the best of luck to all participants in the selection process of the nominations. This is only an incentive to give more of what you know," concluded the Parliamentary Secretary.

 

From his end, Dr Tonio Portughese, Chairman of the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST), said that, “Esplora has gained a reputation both locally and internationally for its daily mission of awakening people's curiosity and imagination about the world around us, and for integrating science and technology into their daily lives. The STEM National Awards 2023 initiative is part of a wide range of Esplora's activities, which are carried out in collaboration with MCST, the government, and other public entities."

 

The National STEM Awards event is an initiative of the National STEM Engagement Working Group, chaired by Esplora Interactive Science Centre on behalf of MCST.
