In accordance with the Food Safety Act and Regulation (EC) No. 178 of 2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council, the Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health wishes to inform the public that following information received through the involved operator, the below mentioned product must not be consumed due to elevated levels of Pyrrolizidine alkaloids.
Pyrrolizidine alkaloids are a large group of natural toxins synthesised as secondary metabolites bydifferent plant species. Several PAs are known to be highly toxic to humans and animals as a result oftheir presence in the food chain. (Source: EFSA Journal Vol 15, Issue 7 – Jul 2017)
