In accordance with the Food Safety Act and Regulation (EC) No. 178 of 2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council, the Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health wishes to inform the public that following information received through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed, the following product must not be consumed in view of high levels of Aflatoxins.
Aflatoxins are produced primarily by two species of the Aspergillus fungus which are especially found in areas with hot, humid climates. They are found in food as a result of fungal contamination, both pre- and post-harvest. Temperature, humidity, soil and storage conditions all affect the rate and degree of contamination. Aflatoxins can cause a variety of adverse health effects in humans.
For further information, the public is kindly requested to contact the Environmental Health Services between 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on telephone number 21337333 or by email on [email protected].
