The Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects, Silvio Schembri, visited the studios of the international esports company BLAST in Ta' Qali, where the first-ever final of this tournament in Malta took place. This event was viewed by millions of people worldwide.
In recent weeks, Malta concluded a three-year agreement with BLAST, which will bring nine major esports events to the country, including the tournament that took place yesterday. As part of this investment, BLAST has established a 1,000-square-metre studio and operations centre in Ta' Qali.
Through BLAST's presence in Malta, our country continues to strengthen its reputation in this fast-growing and dynamic sector, which, in line with Malta Vision 2050, offers high-value-added opportunities and well-paid career prospects for our youths, while further nurturing talent in these fields.
During his visit to the operations centre and studio, where he also met with players and BLAST's technical teams based in Malta, Minister Silvio Schembri stated, “The collaboration between BLAST and Gaming Malta is a clear demonstration of our country's future in this sector. A small nation that continues to attract big names. As outlined in Malta Vision 2050, we are creating opportunities for our youth by investing in high-quality partnerships, while building an innovative, resilient, and competitive economy."
Gaming Malta Chief Executive Ivan Filetti added that “Having BLAST here is not just about hosting great esports tournaments. It's about putting Malta firmly on the global esports map, giving our youths the chance to dream bigger, and showing that Malta can deliver world-class gaming experiences while attracting international talent and investment."
Robbie Douek, CEO at BLAST said, “We're thrilled to be up and running here in Malta with the completion of the BLAST Premier Bounty S2. It marks the start of an exciting multi-year journey for us here in Malta. The resources and investment in our new studio and operations centre in Ta' Qali is a clear demonstration of BLAST's commitment to elevating Maltese esports, investing in the region, and creating opportunities for local talent and staff. Together with our partners GamingMalta, we look forward to shaping Malta's future as a destination for world-class esports experiences, both for fans at home and here in the studio."
