Enemalta continued working on another project that will strengthen the service for thousands of families
Minister for Energy Dr Miriam Dalli and Enemalta Executive Chairman Ing. Ryan Fava visited the cable-laying works in Ħal Qormi, as part of the new Siġġiewi Distribution Centre project.
This is a major infrastructure project that will improve the stability, reliability, resilience, and quality of electricity supply for thousands of customers in the southeastern region of Malta.
“The work to continue strengthening the distribution system continued even during the summer months. For this project alone, we are talking about a stretch of 70 km of cables that will connect several localities to the new distribution centre being constructed in Siġġiewi. In this way, we continue to strengthen the electricity system to make it more resilient in all localities, ensuring that we deliver a good electricity supply to everyone," said Minister Dalli.
“This project is an important step in our continuous work to modernise the electricity distribution network in Malta. Through strategic investments such as the Siġġiewi Distribution Centre, we are ensuring that our customers benefit from a more reliable and future-ready energy supply," said Ing. Ryan Fava.
Once completed, the new Siġġiewi Distribution Centre will bring concrete benefits for customers in several localities, including Ħaż-Żebbuġ, Siġġiewi, Qormi, Mqabba, and Qrendi, and will ensure a stable, resilient, and high-quality electricity supply capable of meeting the ever-growing demand of families and businesses in the area.
Financed through the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), the €20 million investment emphasises Enemalta's commitment to continue strengthening and modernising Malta and Gozo's energy infrastructure while minimising environmental and community impact.
Enemalta is also currently constructing another distribution centre in Naxxar and regenerating the distribution centre in Msida. At the same time, work is underway at the St Andrew's distribution centre to further expand its capacity.
