PRESS RELEASE BY THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARIAT FOR PUBLIC WORKS Works completed on the new turf surface at the Ħal Kirkop ground

In a few weeks, thousands of children will return for another season of football training. The Public Works Department has been carrying out a number of projects at various football nurseries and grounds across Malta over the summer months.

This week, in an event marking the end of the Summer Camp organized by the Ħal Kirkop nursery, the Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works, Omar Farrugia visited the facility whereby he was able to see the completed work, which culminated in the new turf surface for the ground.

Accompanied by the nursery's President, Edward Mizzi, Parliamentary Secretary Farrugia observed the improvements made by the Public Works Department. He saw firsthand what these works mean for both the club and the children, who began enjoying this new investment during the activity.

This project involved the removal of the old turf, necessary maintenance to the sub-base levels, and finally, the installation of the new surface. Such new surface was made possible thanks to funding provided in collaboration with the Central Government and the Malta Football Association (MFA).

Parliamentary Secretary Omar Farrugia emphasised how, as Public Works, “We continue to assist voluntary organizations, including sports associations which play an important role in shaping our children's future."

Kirkop Mayor Matthew Agius Zammit expressed his satisfaction that, thanks to the work carried out by the Public Works Department, the community and children of Kirkop will now have a higher-level facility.

The President of the Ħal Kirkop Nursery, Edward Mizzi, thanked the Public Works Department and stressed how this assistance and investment helps to alleviate the financial burden on every nursery that finds Public Works by its side. “This kind of invaluable help allows the nursery to focus more on maximizing its primary objective: the children."

Among the nurseries and localities that have benefited or are currently benefiting from the Public Works Department's projects this summer are Siġġiewi, Birżebbuġa, Mqabba, Qormi, Ħal Għaxaq, Luqa, Żurrieq, Santa Luċija, Mosta, Dingli, and Żabbar, among others.
