ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIRECTORATE NOTICE

According to the Bathing Water Directive, the Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health wishes to notify the public that, as a precaution, bathing is not recommended due to a percolation of sewage into the sea. This may affect the bathing water quality and poses a risk to bathers’ health.

Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) have identified the source of contamination as coming from private residences in Triq it-Tankijiet, Birżebbuġa. An abatement notice was issued, and legal action has been initiated against the owner. At this stage, the duration of the contamination cannot be predicted.
