In accordance with Chapter 649 of the Food Safety and Security Authority Act, and in line with the Authority's role to ensure transparency and public awareness on matters relating to food safety and security, the Authority hereby informs the public of the following information received through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF). The alert states that this product must not be consumed since it contains high levels of 3-monochloropropanediol (3-MCPD).
3-MCPD are a group of contaminants which form during the processing of edible oils. In elevated levels, these can have an adverse effect on the human reproductive system/kidneys and can also be carcinogenic.
