In accordance with Chapter 649 of the Food Safety and Security Authority Act, and in line with the Authority's role to ensure transparency and public awareness on matters relating to food safety and security, the Authority hereby informs the public of the following information received through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF). The alert states that the following product must not be consumed in view that it may contain elevated levels of glycidyl fatty acid esters (GE).
When consumed, glycidyl fatty acid esters (GE) are converted into glycidol in the human body. Glycidol is a genotoxic and carcinogenic substance, meaning it can damage DNA and increase the risk of cancer.
