“We are protecting families today while building a stronger Malta for tomorrow"- Minister Miriam Dalli
A more reliable electricity supply, greater investment in clean energy, stronger water infrastructure and more open spaces for families. These are among the priorities of Budget 2027 for the energy and environment sectors, which will continue to combine the protection of families from international pressures with strategic investments in Malta's future.
This was the central message delivered by Minister for Energy, the Environment and the Regeneration of the Grand Harbour Miriam Dalli during a press conference on Budget 2027.
The Minister explained that the Budget allocates the largest capital allocation to her Ministry, with an investment of more than €370 million. At the same time, Government will continue to shield families and businesses from fluctuations in international energy prices through a further €400 million in subsidies.
“Our policy is clear; we are protecting families from today's pressures while investing in the infrastructure our country needs for the future. This is the principle behind Malta Miegħek - a country that moves forward and moves its people along with it," Minister Dalli said.
In the energy sector, work will continue to strengthen the electricity distribution network through additional substations, cables and distribution centres. At the same time, Government will continue advancing strategic projects, including the second interconnector, battery energy storage systems and the development of new renewable energy sources.
Schemes supporting families in investing in clean energy and improving energy and water efficiency will also continue, ensuring that the environmental transition is an opportunity for everyone.
In the water sector, investments will focus on increasing production capacity, modernising infrastructure and improving wastewater treatment. The expansion of the New Water network will also continue, promoting the sustainable use of water resources.
In the environmental sector, the Government will continue investing in modern waste management systems, nature conservation and the creation of more open spaces. This work also includes the development of national parks at Manoel Island, White Rocks and Fort Campbell.
Minister Dalli emphasised that these investments are designed to ensure that economic growth translates into tangible benefits for families. “A country's success is not measured solely by economic growth, but by the extent to which that growth improves people's lives. We are investing in better services and infrastructure, a more attractive environment and a more sustainable future for generations to come," Minister Dalli concluded.
