Inside the sanctuary, Pope Francis prays in the chapel and places a golden rose at the foot of the painting of Our Lady of Ta' Pinu.
Both Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI gave golden roses to the miraculous painting during their visits to Malta, in 1990 and 2010 respectively.

Pope Francis leaves Gozo for Malta on the ferry, and is then transferred to the Apostolic Nunciature in Tal-Virtù, Rabat, which will be his residence during his stay in Malta.
