Business Startup - Sole Traders

<b>SCOPE</b>​</br></br>
The compilation of this e-form provides a single channel for the commencement of operations of an MFSA-registered company as it amalgamates all forms needed by the various Local Authorities/ Agencies into one submission.​

<b>WHO MAY APPLY</b>​</br>
Applicants must be Maltese Citizens with a valid Identity Card issued by the Identity Malta Agency ending with all letters ​<b><i>excluding A</i></b>.

</br>
<b>EXCLUSIONS</b>
<ul>
<li>
Non- EU Nationals who hold/ do not hold a Residence Card issued b the Identity Malta Agency;
</li>
<li>
Non- EU Nationals who are either dependent on an EU National and/ or married to a Maltese National; and /or
</li>
<li>
EU Nationals vested as a Company’s Director who hold/ do not hold a Residence Card issued by the Identity Management Agency with the letter ‘A’.

<b>HOW TO REGISTER AS A SELF EMPLOYED</b>​</br></br>
In order to operate a business as self-employed in Malta, individuals need to inform JobsPlus through the completion of a 'Self Engagement Form', as well as notify the National Statistics Office for inclusion in the Business Register Questionnaire.</br></br/>
Applicants who intend to open a business <a href="/en/Services-And-Information/eforms/Documents/eForms%20PDF/MFEI/ME/PDF_List_of_NACE_Codes.pdf">under specific NACE Codes</a>​ must obtain a ‘No Objection Declaration’ issued by the Environmental Health Directorate. The Business Certification and Consultation Unit (Health) within the Environmental Health Directorate certifies business operations and provides consultation services with respect to food safety and public health related issues. This single e-form permits the applicant to comply with the above obligations.​
</br>
</br>
<b>Based on the nature of the operations, the applicant may also require:</b>
<br/>
</br>
<ol>
<li>
VAT number/s – to register with the VAT Department in the event that the business activity is non- taxable;
</li>
<li>
PE number -&#160;to register as an employer with the Inland Revenue Department in the event that the activity will entail the engagement of employees during the initial stages;
</li>
<li>
Jobsplus Number – Jobsplus forwards the Jobsplus number as part of the registration and commencement of the business activity; and
</li>
<li>
National Statistics Office – are notified with the birth of a new business registration.
</li>
</ol>

Once the application is duly filled in and submitted, the data will be processed and the applicant will be provided, through electronic means, with the necessary registration numbers to be able to commence operations within three working days.

<b>MANDATORY DOCUMENTATION TO BE UPLOADED​</b>

A front and back copy of the applicant’s Identity Card.
