The public is being invited to share its views on Malta's Energy Shift: A Sustainable Power Transition -- a long-term strategy to transform Malta's electricity system and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

The document sets out how Malta plans to navigate its unique energy challenges -- limited land, at the periphery of the European grid, and reliance on fuel imports -- while meeting EU climate targets and keeping energy affordable and reliable. The strategy is built around five pillars: affordability, security of supply, sustainability, diversification, and a consumer-centric approach.

Key areas covered to transition to a more sustainable power supply mix include the expansion of renewable energy, major infrastructure investments such as a second and third electrical interconnector and large-scale battery storage systems, the development of offshore wind, backup plants, hydrogen ready pipeline, cooperation with North Africa, uptake of domestic batteries,  and the expansion of the distribution network together with measures to protect consumers and enable active participation in the energy market.

Members of the public, businesses, and stakeholders are encouraged to read the document and submit their feedback.
